"Could you not watch one hour with me?"

Did you know that in 2005, in Snohomish County alone, 2,668 children were killed by abortion? That’s enough children to fill 5 public elementary schools. We don’t know the exact break down, but by all indications, the majority of these abortions occurred right here in Everett, at the local Planned Parenthood. And this happens EVERY year. Most people don’t even realize that it’s happening.

If our society is callous enough to disregard vulnerable innocent children in the name of “freedom”, what does this translate into when it comes to how we treat each other? If Christians are too busy to be there for pregnant women who are hurting or confused, to whom will these women turn? Our nation, our state, and our city are in need of a transformation. Christians are in need of a re-awakening.

We have hope that God will bring about this transformation, for He has promised us: “If the people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

That promise is what the 40 Days for Life campaign is all about. Thousands of Christians throughout America will be uniting across 89 cities, in a spirit of repentance, to seek God’s face, to devote ourselves to prayer and fasting, holding a 40 day, peaceful vigil outside of local abortion facilities, and doing community outreach.

Throughout history, God has used the period of 40 days to bring about major transformation. We don’t know what God has in store for Everett and for America through the 40 days of our campaign, but we sure are excited to find out!

What about you? Will you stand with us as we “stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves”?

Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee? And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40)

If Christ is in the least of these, if he is anywhere in our community, he is at that clinic. Will you take one hour a week…to come and pray there?
